When it comes to snacks for little folk, details make the difference.

Get creative and put a new spin on old favourites:

  • Chop wholewheat pita breads into wedges. Drizzle with a little olive oil and toast under the grill. Mash an avocado with a squeeze of lemon juice and a little milled pepper. Serve dip with pita ‘chips’.
  • Add a little quirk with cookie cutters: Cut slices of fruit into shapes, thread onto bamboo skewers and serve with yoghurt for dipping, or make sandwiches and cut into shapes with larger cookie cutters.
  • Up the health quotient: Use wholegrain or low-GI bread and rolls instead of processed white bread, and smooth cottage cheese instead of fatty spreads like butter and mayonnaise.
  • Use 1/3 mayonnaise and 2/3 plain yoghurt for creamy dressings, chicken mayo or egg sandwiches.
