Information Services

The Information Services (IS) Team is a dynamic group of IT professionals that are focused on and responsible for all the systems that are used in the business. All Information and Communication Technology (ICT) deployed in Pick n Pay aimed at enabling rapid, high volume performance in the business is managed by the teams within IS.

IT Systems were first introduced to Pick n Pay in the early 1980’s and focused on electronic cash registers. The adoption and expanded use of systems today has enabled the rapid growth enjoyed by the business over the past 30 years.

Today our systems are used in every facet of the business from Sales in our stores, to the Supply Chain systems, to the Finance and Buying systems that keep track of everything commercial.

Our systems are also very much an interaction pint for all of our valued customers – through our Loyalty Mobile App, SmartShopper Kiosks to our Online Shop and websites.

The Teams are organised in the following groups with specialist focus:-

  • BI and Data Science Capability

Each team is made up of:

  • A leader who is responsible for setting the goals and plans for the team to achieve in serving the business end user needs.
  • Architects that are responsible for the design and architecture of the systems platform requirements to meet the needs of the business in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible using the latest technology at our disposal.
  • Solution Delivery Consultants that are responsible for operating within the full Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to take business end user requirements, architectural strategies and time lines from design to deployment as effectively and in as engaged a way possible to our exact specifications.
  • Service Delivery Consultants that are connected to their end user communities and are at hand to assist the business end users to make the most of their technology system-based solutions to ensure they are as productive and customer focused as they can possibly be.
  • Service Delivery Managers that work with our Infrastructure and other partners to ensure the contracted services are delivered according to Service Level Agreement.

Key partners that we work with are IBM, SAP, Dimension Data, Internet Solutions, Business Connexion, Gijima, CEB Maintenance, Vision Bean Store and Electrum.

The IS leadership team works closely with the Shared Services Finance, Administration and HR departments to ensure that all the relevant policies and procedures are followed and that the management and staff are well trained and focused on their customers.
