The big cheeses at the new V&A Pick n Pay

We're taking our passion for cheese to a whole new level. Check out the un-brie-lievable range of cheeses at our new V&A Waterfront Pick n Pay.

You’ve never had so much cheese to choose from! With the best from local specialty cheese producers shelved alongside imported cheese from every corner of the world, we have something for every palate.

Blue cheese

Alive with robust flavour, Igor Gorgonzola is produced with milk of the highest quality and is rich in antioxidants. It’s also completely organic.

We love Gorgonzola because this cheese is gluten and…wait for it…lactose free! In fact, it’s the only soft cheese with this characteristic, thanks to a three-step fermentation process that removes the lactose.

Bleuet Goat’s Milk Blue made the V&A Pick n Pay’s cheeseboard because blue cheeses are rarely made with goat’s milk. This novel cheese is dense, yet moist, with a pleasant balance of fudgy, mineral, sweet, salty and milky flavours – something the true cheese connoisseur will appreciate.


We’ve gone authentically French by going to the source and importing brie cheese from the brands Mon Ami and Brie de Meaux. Brie de Meaux delivers a soft combination of hazelnut and fruit aromas.


The Mon Sire range of cheeses from Fromi is a selection of the best products from French terroir. They reflect authentic French cultureyet are still adaptable in culinary applications. We thought we’d start their range of cheeses with the Camembert.

Flavoured cheese

This is a food trend we are happily opening our doors – a trend that sees cheeses speckled with herbs, spices and fruits. Even the elite truffle has made an appearance in these already indulgent foods! We have imports like California-inspired cheese Monterey Jack in jalapeño and garlic and basil flavours. Then representing locally are Sincerely Brigitte with their chipotle-flavoured white cheddar, and Hijke’s cumin-infused gouda.

Local cheese producers

The new V&A Waterfront Pick n Pay is also proud to stock local cheese-producing heavyweights Fairview and Puglia, experts at making top quality Gorgonzola and mozzarella, respectively. 

The new V&A stocks mild, rich and creamy Fairview Blue Tower and Puglia mozzarella in every flavour and texture you can think of.  There’s also a delicious aged ricotta.

Other local specialty cheese producers that have entered the SA market recently (with critical acclaim) are Taaibosch Kaas and Langbaken Karoo. They’ve done their rounds at some of SA’s biggest festivals and we’ve welcomed them with open arms to the new V&A Waterfront Pick n Pay.
