Making jewelled
Easter lollies is easy!

Paint white sugar-coated chocolate eggs with powdered food colouring thinned with a dash of water – or make ‘jewelled’ eggs by sticking sweets onto eggs with icing sugar mixed with a little water. Leave to dry. Break off the pointy tip of a bamboo skewer, stick into the egg and decorate with a ribbon. These are perfect for sticking into the ground during Easter egg hunts.

EGGS-CELLENT IDEAS FOR EASTER EGG HUNTS...

Draw a treasure map to scale and include trees, flowers and plants. Plot spots on the maps for the hidden eggs. Dip the maps in brewed tea and burn the edges for an authentic look. Give a copy to each child and let them run wild searching for their loot… This can be turned into an indoor hunt if the weather is bad or for apartment dwellers. A night-time hunt adds excitement, especially for older kids.

EGGS-CELLENT tips

  • Avoid the disappointment of a melted, sticky mess by hiding chocolate eggs in the shade
  • The hunt doesn't end until the last egg is found, so keep a count of how many eggs you hide!
  • Estimate about a 12 eggs per guest so everyone has a chance to amass a fair number of eggs
  • Don't forget to have a basket for each of your guests!
