Grandma's chocolate cake

A basic cake mix that has saved me countless times already! Foolproof and flopproof this one is great to keep at hand!

Method
  • Preheat oven to 190°C
  • Sift together self raising flour and salt
  • Cream margarine and sugar till light and creamy
  • Add the eggs and beat again till light and creamy
  • Mix the cocoa and the hot water and smooth out all lumps 
  • Add to the dry ingredients along with the milk and the egg mixture
  • Mix well but work swiftly
  • Pour into two greased 20cm cake tins
  • Bake for 20 minutes in preheated oven or until skewer comes out clean
  • Decorate with chocolate buttercream icing, whipped cream and strawberries or chocolate ganache
