What does it mean to ‘switch’ my points? |
This is the process of turning the points you have earned into a cash value on your smart shopper card. You can do this at any kiosk as long as you have at least 1 000 points in your smart shopper account.
Remember, 1 000 points equals R10 cash back on your card to spend on your next purchase or to donate to charity.
Do I have to use all my points when I switch? |
How much is 1 smart point worth? |
1 smart point is worth 1 cent. Therefore, 100 points = R1 cash back on your card against your next purchase, or you can donate to these points to a charity. Please remember that you need a minimum value of 1 000 points to switch and that 1 000 points = R10 cash back.
Is there any way I can rather convert my points to physical cash? |
No, this is not possible. Your smart points are as good as cash though because you can use them to pay for your purchases at Pick n Pay.
Where can I check my points balance? |

To receive your vouchers you need to swipe your card, then touch the ‘Get My Offers’ button and your vouchers will be displayed. You can choose to print all of your vouchers or a selection of them. But please remember you can only print each voucher once, so keep them in a safe place until you are ready to use them.

However you cannot use multiple vouchers when you purchase a single product.

Managing my smart shopper account |
What happens to my smart points if I return an item and request a refund? |
The points will be taken off your smart shopper account balance. Please remember to bring your proof of purchase and your smart shopper card with you when you return goods. Your till slip will show that your smart shopper card was swiped to earn smart points.
Please note: we cannot put money back (from the refund) onto your smart shopper card, so we will either (as is your preference) put it onto your debit or credit card or pay you cash.
What happens to the account if a smart shopper member passes away? |
The card becomes inactive and the account will be closed after two years of inactivity. The points are forfeited and removed from the deceased individual’s account. These points are never switched into cash. However if that individual’s card was part of a household account then other members of that account can access the points. Merging of accounts will be available from November 2011.
Can a transaction be cancelled? |
Yes, this can be done during the sale, and no points will be earned as a result.
Do my points expire if I have already switched them to cash back on my card? |
No, once you have switched points onto your smart shopper card, they are converted to a rand value that you use at the till. However if you don’t use that card for three years, the card will be deactivated and the cash balance on the card lost.
Does my smart shopper card ever expire? |
No, your card does not expire, but it will be de-activated if you do not use it at all for two years, and you will lose any smart points linked to that card. If there is a cash balance on your smart shopper card, you will lose it after three years of inactivity.
If my smart shopper card has been de-activated, can it be re-activated if I start using it again? |
No, you will need to apply for a new smart shopper card.
Troubleshooting |
When I tried to use the kiosk, the screen said that my card has been blocked. What do I do? |
Please call the Customer Care Line on 0800 11 22 88. They will investigate why your card has been blocked and revert to you after three working days to advise you whether the card has been successfully unblocked or whether you need to apply for another card.
When I checked my points balance it was negative. What do I do? |
If you have switched points onto cash back on your card and then returned goods and had points deducted from your card then you may have a negative balance on your account. However if this is not the case then it is a technical issue which has now been fixed and all points should appear within a maximum of 5 days. If they don’t appear, please call the Customer Care Line on 0800 11 22 88 and provide them with your details and card number.
I took a card and application form home and have used the card to earn points. However I can’t find the application form, what can I do? |
All you need to do is go to the Get started and register page. You will then be asked to supply your smart shopper card number and contact details and be able to complete the application process. Alternatively, if you do not have Internet access, swipe your card at the in-store kiosk to register it. You can then contact the Customer Care Line on 0800 11 22 88 who will be able to assist you further.
I haven’t received a Welcome voucher yet, why is that? |
Many of our customers opted to be communicated to via sms or email only and hence we will not be sending all customers their welcome voucher by mail. Please check the kiosk regularly as your voucher may be waiting for you on the kiosk. Due to the successful uptake of the programme we have a backlog of application forms to capture. However if you would like to speed up the process please go to the Get started and register page and complete your registration online.
I haven’t been able to switch my points at a kiosk, why is that? |
There may be a number of reasons for this:
The magnetic strip on my card is damaged but there is cash on the card, how can I redeem it? |
Unfortunately it is not possible to enter a card number manually at the till to redeem the cash, as a smart shopper card is like any other bank card. You will therefore need to replace your old card. Please contact the Customer Care Line on 0800 11 22 88 and advise them about the problem with your card. You then need to pick up a new card at your nearest Pick n Pay and ask the smart shopper champion for a Lost card form. Complete the form and return it to the smart shopper champion or you can fax directly to 0860 40 40 40 or scan and email to customercare@pnp.co.za. Your old card will be merged with your account, and the cash will be made available on your new card. Please destroy your old card.
I thought I had lost my card so I completed the Lost card form in-store but now I’ve found my card – what should I do? |
Although your old card may not be blocked immediately, rather destroy your old card and start using a new one. Once the Lost card form has been received by Customer Care the process begins to block that merge the old card with your account and cannot be reversed.
How long does it take for my points to be merged to a new card? |
If your details have been captured it will take a maximum of 5 days. If your details are yet to be captured onto the system, this will take longer. To speed up the process please go to the Get started and register page. You will then be asked to supply your smart shopper card number and contact details and be able to complete the application process.
