Classic garlic butter bread

A South African braai favourite. For a little bit of spice, add a finely chopped chilli to the butter.

Method
  • Preheat oven to 180°C.
  • Mix together the ingredients for the garlic butter of your choice.
  • Using a serrated knife, slice bread into 2cm slices. Don’t cut all the way through the loaf – leave about 1cm uncut at the bottom of each slice.
  • Spread the butter equally between slices.
  • Wrap loaf in foil and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until butter has melted and bread is crunchy.

 

Cook's tip

  • You could also use margarine or olive oil instead of butter if you prefer.
