Method
  • Prepare a medium direct fire. 
  • Grease a pot with butter and heat until very hot. 
  • Brown the meat, a few pieces at a time and set aside. 
  • Cook the onions in the fat from the meat until soft. 
  • Return the meat to the pot and layer the potatoes and sweet potatoes on top of the meat. 
  • Mix all of the ingredients for the sauce together 
  • Pour the sauce over the food and season.
  • Cover with the lid and allow simmering for approximately 1 hour. 
  • Add the vegetables and simmer for 1 hour 30 minutes.
  • Serve with savory pot bread. 

Savoury pot bread

  • Thoroughly mix all of the ingredients together.
  • Scoop into a greased flat-bottomed pot or a greased bread pan. 
  • Bake for 1 hour on a medium heat fire

Variations:

Replace the oxtail soup powder with brown onion soup powder. 

Replace the cayenne pepper, cheese and buttermilk with 1 can of beer.
