Method
  • Rub the trimmed beef with oil. 
  • Combine all the ingredients for the spice mixture, and either place in a blender to blend or place through a spice mill until fine. Rub the spice into the beef
  • Combine ingredients for basting and set aside.
  • Prepare a direct fire. 
  • Place meat on the cooking grate and and cook until required doneness is reached, basting meat from time to time.

Chakalaka spuds

  • Prepare an indirect fire.
  • Drain the potatoes and cut each one in half.
  • Grease a large oven dish and arrange the potato halves next to each other.
  • Heat the oil in a small saucepan and fry the onion and garlic for a minute. 
  • Add the mushrooms and fry for about 5 minutes.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
  • Add the chakalaka to the mixture and allow it to simmer for a couple of minutes.
  • Add the cream and season to taste. 
  • Spoon the mixture over the potato halves and sprinkle each half with cheese.
  • Bake the spuds in the grill for about 15 minutes.
